HINDUSTAN MOTORS AMBASSADOR 1800/2000 DSL

This is the car that is the Moses of India’s Red sea roads. The mere sight of this car in the rear view mirror causes people to stop parting their hair and turn on their left indicators. It carries the Indian polity and policies like it were built to do it. It began its life nearly half a century ago as a comfortable reliable sedan for Indian extended families to travel in. That meant anywhere from four to 14 people could lounge around in the sofa like seats from Dombivali to Daman. Things haven’t changed much in all this while. Yes, you get bucket seats, air-conditioning power steering and the so-called necessary luxury bits. Hindustan motors will also offer you a bulletproof version, but without the benefit of hemi power. Instead you will have to live with 1800cc petrol from the 1980s and a diesel that’s just as old. The Avigo is er, modern looking, but it’s asking for too much from a Morris descendant.
